The purpose of the Maryland Film Festival Grant program is to support existing Film Festivals, and to inspire the creation of new Film Festivals across Maryland.

Festival grant awards will range from $1,000 to $5,000.  Grant awards will be based on the following criteria:

  • Artistic Merit

  • Quality and quantity of programming

  • Quality and quantity of filmmakers and key personnel

  • Program Diversity

  • Festival Attendance

  • Educational Components

  • Community Involvement and Support

  • Growth Potential

  • Geographic Representation

  • Private Sector Support

  • Ability of the applicant to carry out the proposed activities

  • Feasibility of the budget

Grant applications will be evaluated by a review panel consisting of professionals from the film, arts and tourism industries and overseen by Maryland Film Office staff.  Final grant awards will be approved by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development or his designee.
